Private Tennis Lessons
An important complement to JMTA group programming, the individual attention that private lessons provide accelerates progress and addresses key tactical, technical and other components of a specific player’s game. Our coaches have been trained to understand individual player differences, and to cater to different personalities, learning styles, ages and stages of development. To find the right coach for your player, or to discuss the best balance of group and private training for your player, contact your JMTA Director.

JMTA MAC Red One
Designed for young players just starting to play the game. Using the appropriate-sized Red Court (36’) and ball (low compression red), JMTA MAC Red One players learn to serve, rally and score on the Red Court over a lower net. Actually playing the game from the start increases our youngest players’ motivation to learn and to commit to acquiring new skills, and minimizes frustration. JMTA MAC Red One players compete in SPORTIME World Tour events. Age appropriate athletic training, designed by JMTA’s Athletic Performance Department, is incorporated into on-court training for JMTA MAC Red One players.

JMTA MAC Red Two
In JMTA MAC Red Two, players continue on the Red Court, refine strokes, and begin linking shots together and developing more advanced technical skills, including learning how to deal with spin and speed. Our mission is to develop players that love to play and compete, so JMTA MAC Red Two players continue to compete in SPORTIME World Tour events. Athletic Training for MAC Red Levels: Age appropriate athletic training, designed by JMTA’s Athletic Performance Department, is incorporated into on-court training for MAC Red Two players. JMTA MAC Orange One
JMTA MAC Orange One players transition to the larger Orange Court (60’) and the full-sized net, using both red balls and orange balls that move faster and bounce higher, making tracking and movement more challenging. Tactical sophistication increases, and technique continues to evolve, to meet the demands of the larger court and to match growing physical capabilities.

JMTA MAC Orange Two
Now more confident, JMTA MAC Orange Two players start to master patterns and begin to understand their own strengths and weaknesses. Each shot is now hit with the intention of challenging the opponent. Tactical skills include decision making, taking time away from the opponent and increasing intensity of play. In Orange Two, there is increased focus on developing the athletic, movement and balance skills that form the foundation of technical development, and that are essential for playing high-level tennis.
Ages: 7 - 10

JMTA Green Ball
For players transitioning from the Orange Court who have the necessary strength and stature to handle the full-sized Green Court (78’), playing primarily with the green ball.
Ages: 9 - 13

JMTA Yellow Ball
The final stage of the JMTA pathway, Yellow Ball players begin to master patterns and to more fully understand their own strengths and weaknesses.
Ages: 9 - 17

JMTA Green & Yellow Ball Strategy
The JMTA Strategy program aims to provide JMTA players with a comprehensive understanding of match play strategies, point construction and tactical decision-making. By utilizing video analysis and interactive discussion, players gain essential insights into their gameplay/match play styles and a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.

Detailed Athletic Assessment and Risk Assessment Screenings
A member of our world-class athletic training staff assesses an athlete’s movement competency, including on-court speed, strength and power production, and identifies areas of increased injury risk and those in need of improvement.

Private Athletic Training
An important complement to on-court training, JMTA provides a unique one-on-one athletic development model for junior players that encompasses all elements of strength and conditioning, sports science and sports medicine. After a screening is conducted, a training program is then designed to address any deficits or movement faults identified, to improve performance, to decrease injury risk and to build the foundation for long-term athletic development on and off the court. Nutrition/Hydration Counseling
Proper nutrition and hydration, and the related capacity to recover after matches and training, is critical to peak on-court performance. Includes an initial Nutrition Consultation, the development of an individualized nutritional program, and one follow-up progress assessment. Private Mental Toughness Training
Mental toughness plays a crucial role in competitive tennis. The ability to manage stress effectively and to maintain motivation when facing challenges has an essential impact on performance and on competitive results. The John McEnroe Tennis Academy recognizes the importance of mental performance and wellness and offers sessions designed to enhance players' mental games. Enhanced Tournament Support
Individual coaching at tournaments, including out of state tournaments, is available to JMTA players for an additional cost. Please contact your JMTA Director for additional information. Challenge matches, Travel Team trips to tournaments, invitational training camps, matches against college teams, and other special trips and events are offered throughout the year, and will be announced.
